Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze have ridiculous amounts of chemistry and the supporting cast nails it across the board. The dance numbers are awesome and the movie as a whole has held up extremely well over time.
A classic definitely worth watching. What a great film. It made me feel young again and wanting to dance.
Patrick Swayze was an amazing dancer, much better than Johnny Castle, but sexy and raw and passionate all at the same time. The choreography was terrific.
All the dancers, including the background group, were excellent. Cynthia Rhodes should have gone on to be a major star. Jennifer Grey "grew up" as the film progress, both in maturity and dance.
Whenever I feel "down" I watch this film. And the extra commentaries by the writer, director, choreographers and the stars was like living the making of the film.
If you like cheesy acting and cheesy dialogue, this is the movie for you. I don't understand how this movie has gone down as a classic.
It had some OK moments which is why I gave it 3 stars, but it feels rushed. Especially the relationship between the leading characters.
No depth ever really evolves so I did not care whether they stayed together or fell apart. If you like dance movies then it's worth a watch. Aside from that, there is no reason to watch it IMO.

The fact when the film was realised the production companies attitude was they made a huge mistake and expected it to flop is now hard to imagine, but many of the executives at the time did not realise there was a sub-plot concerning abortion in the story So when the figures of how many people where actually coming to the box office and sometimes going again was quite a surprise.
And even more so when it was actually the highest grossing films of Obviously since then it has exceeded so much more than just being a popular film; Dirty Dancing has had sequels, soundtracks, stage musicals and even dance competitions and is now considered a classic chick-flick.
I think the appeal is the fact 'Baby' is all teenage girls struggling with their identity, along with parental expectation and then meeting the 'bad boy'.
Many of the audience is also very familiar with the soundtrack having parents playing that music in their childhood homes but also the end did have a happy ending which any woman secretly yearns for that the 'bad boy' turns in to be their 'hero' at the end of the story.
It did truly deserve all the adoration, awards and pure affection and turn Patrick Swazye and Jennifer Grey into stars. Still love this movie after all these years.
